Where to see the Bonn Cherry Blossom
If you’re looking to see the best of the cherry blossom Bonn has to offer you need to know where you’re going. There are a couple of must-visit streets which I’ve listed below:
Heerstraße
Known as Cherry Blossom Avenue, this is by far the most popular spot to see the cherry blossoms in Bonn. From start to finish Heerstraße is lined with trees on both sides of the street creating a tunnel of pink when the blossoms are in full bloom.
Breite straße
Just a short stroll from Heerstraße, Breite Straße is another iconic spot often featured in Bonn Cherry Blossom photos, thanks to its famous ‘Altstadt’ sign. Breite straße is the perfect backdrop to the blossoms thanks to its cobbled streets and beautiful old buildings. The street is also lined with lots of pretty cafes and cute little shops, it really is like walking through a fairytale! For me, this was these were the best cherry blossoms Bonn had to offer.
Maxstraße
Connecting both Breite straße and Heerstraße is Maxstraße. Here you’ll find something a little different as this street is home to the Amanogawa cherry blossom tree variety. These trees are a lot narrower and have lighter colour blooms but are still well worth seeing!
Friedrichstraße
Friedrichstraße is a bit more centrally located but it’s also a busy shopping street that’s also home to plenty of bars and restaurants. It’ll get busy here quickly with generally pedestrian footfall so won’t make the best spot for a photo shoot. I’d say this one is better for visiting later on.
Sterntor City Gate
In Bonn’s Old Town, you’ll find the Sterntor City Gate. Once part of the city’s medieval fortifications, the gate isn’t entirely original but does contain parts of the original gate. Nevertheless, you’ll notice a single cherry blossom tree by its side which blooms beautifully in the spring. Another fairytale spot in the city!
Bonner Münster (Bonn Minster)
The Bonn Minster is an incredible site to behold on its own but come spring time when the cherry blossoms in front of it bloom it’s made even more special. You can get some great photos here of the Minster’s spire fronted by the pink blossoms.

Tips for seeing the Bonn Cherry Blossom
- Go early – The Bonn Cherry Blossom is incredibly popular with both tourists and locals, if you want the best photos I recommend to travel there as early as possible, definitely before 9 am.
- Watch the roads – This could be an obvious one, but a lot of the trees are on streets with roads running through them. It’s easy to get lost in the moment but while you’re taking your photos be on the lookout for approaching cars.
- Be mindful of local people – A lot of the trees are lining streets which are also home to flats/houses/local businesses etc, be mindful of where you’re placing yourself and that you’re not in the way of any doorways etc.
