What you need to know
- Is Hamburg worth visiting? Absolutely! Hamburg really is one of my favourite places in Germany. It has so much personality, you’re guaranteed a great time – there’s also lots of tasty food and restaurants to try!
- How many days are enough for Hamburg? You could get a good taste of what the city has to offer over a long weekend, but as shown on my Hamburg tourist map, there’s plenty to see to last a whole week!
- What is the most famous thing in Hamburg? I would say the most thing in Hamburg is the Speicherstadt warehouse district.

What’s included?
In my Hamburg tourist map, I’ve included over 60 of the city’s most must-visit destinations! They’re split into the following categories depending on what you want to see and do:
- Historical Sites – Hamburg strikes the perfect balance between history and modernity, which is one of the things I love most about the city. From iconic landmarks like the Old Town Hall to UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Speicherstadt, there’s no shortage of great historical spots to explore!
- General Tourist Attractions – Hamburg is packed with incredible attractions! Stroll along Hamburg Harbour and the St. Pauli Piers, uncover the city’s dark past at the Hamburg Dungeon, or check out the buzzing nightlife of the Reeperbahn—the city’s famous Red Light District!
- Museums / Art Galleries – If you’re a museum lover, you’re in the right place here. Whether you want to learn about nautical history on an actual ship on the Rickmer Rickmers, dive into the world of spices at Spicy’s Spice Museum or pretty much anything in between, Hamburg has a museum for you! And for art enthusiasts, the Hamburger Kunsthalle—one of Germany’s largest galleries—is an absolute must-visit!
- Parks – If you’re looking for a break from the city buzz, Hamburg has plenty of green spaces to explore. Notably Planten un Blomen, one of the most popular parks in the city, is especially worth a visit!
- Shopping – Hamburg’s city centre is a shopper’s paradise! Jungfernstieg and its surroundings are packed with high-end boutiques, while the Europa Passage shopping mall is alays buzzing with people and offers just about everything you could need.
- Churches – Hamburg is home to some beautiful churches, and even if you’re not religious, they’re well worth a visit. If you can only see one, make it the St. Nikolai Memorial.
